How we choose partners, what we fund, and why we hand every program back to the community that runs it.
GHDF isn’t a delivery organization. We don’t run schools, clinics, or farms. We back the people already doing the work in their communities — with funding, training, and the kind of long-term patience that most of philanthropy no longer has the appetite for.
Every engagement begins with months of conversation with community members — not consultants. We turn down more projects than we fund because the fit isn’t right.
Goals, budgets, and timelines are co-owned with local leadership from the first meeting. The community sets what success looks like, not us.
Wherever possible, money goes directly to local cooperatives, women-led organizations, and community groups — not intermediaries.
Every program has a clear handoff date. Our presence is temporary by design.
Our reporting starts with what families and local leaders say matters — then we add whatever outside metrics donors need.
We publish what’s working, what isn’t, and what we got wrong. Communities trust honest partners more than impressive ones.
We don’t report ‘lives touched’ because the phrase doesn’t mean anything. We report specific outcomes the community and we agreed to — completion rates in schools we support, income changes in cooperatives we funded, water access sustained two years after project handoff, girls who stayed in school through grade 9.
A fuller methodology and our annual indicators will be published in our first annual report.
